Wins for walking in 2025

Whether you’ve led a walk, supported our campaigns or helped make our work possible through your membership, you’ve made a lot of great things happen:
1. You helped open, improve or maintain over 220 miles of paths
Paths are our gateway to the outdoors. So over the last year, Ramblers volunteers opened or improved a whopping 405 miles of them. Enough to take you from London to Edinburgh. When needed, we’ll also take our fight to the courts. In March, your support took us all the way to the High Court where we won a long-running legal battle to protect much-loved Cumbrian paths. But our work is not done – Roxlena Ltd, the landowner, is appealing the decision. But don’t worry, we’re busy preparing to go back to court to set this precedent in stone.
2. You led 120,000 group walks across Britain
There’s nothing like coming together to enjoy a walk in the outdoors. By delivering an estimated 120,000 across the last year, you’ve helped countless people all over Britain to get outside, breathe the fresh air and enjoy a friendly natter.
We don’t want to stop there. By 2034, our ambition is that everyone in England and Wales will be able to join a Ramblers Wellbeing Walk near to where they live. Keep your eyes peeled.
We joined members of Livingston Ramblers for a scenic walk at Loch Leven in Fife, to hear how Ramblers Scotland group walks have boosted their health and happiness. Check out our video below:
3. You helped launch 55 programmes in communities that need them the most
We want to break down barriers for communities that have the least access and face the most barriers to the outdoors. So we’ve been working to empower local communities to set up their own local walks. In the last 12 months, we’ve developed 55 of these programmes from our Community Outreach Project in Scotland to our Walks for Women project in Wales and our walk leader training in the northeast of England. That brings our total number of active programmes to over 250!

4. Your support helped 120 young people kickstart a love of the outdoors
Open to 18-26 year olds, the Out There Award is a fun, free training programme that helps young people meet like-minded walkers and learn skills in the outdoors. And it’s growing every year.
2025 marked its biggest year yet with 31 events delivered across 15 cities.

5. You’ve campaigned to unlock the outdoors for everyone
Some of the biggest blockers to the outdoors can only be solved by legislation. So 2025 marked another year of harnessing your support to lobby the highest levels of government. And whether its the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill, the Sustainable Farming Scheme for Wales or the new All-Party Parliamentary Group for Outdoor Recreation, we’ve seen some huge steps forward.
With 20 million people living more than a 15 minute walk from green and blue spaces, we know there’s much more work to do in 2026.
But for now, we want to say a massive thank you for everything you have done to support our work this year.
We hope you have a wonderful Christmas break and look forward to seeing you in the new year!
