Walk magazine summer 2024
Walk is the Ramblers’ magazine, with more readers than any other UK walking magazine
Summer 2024
An incredible 25,000 of you spend time each month making Britain’s landscapes more walkable and helping people experience the joys and health benefits of being active outdoors. This Volunteers’ Week (3-9 June) we’re celebrating Ramblers volunteers and everything you do to keep Britain walking. Meet Sam, Sue, Jamie, Elaine and Chitra – one five-thousandth of our amazing volunteers!
As we step into summer, we also have helpful advice and top tips to help you make the most of the coming season. Stay sun-safe from head to toe with our experts’ gear recommendations, avoid bites and stings with our guide to bothersome bugs, and discover the best places in Britain to combine a ramble with a ferry ride.
If you’ve been busy volunteering, or enjoyed a sensational summer walk, tell us about it on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. And share your photos of riverside rambles and shoreline strolls in our ‘Waterside walks’ competition.

Three cheers for our volunteers
From organising walks to fixing footpaths to deciphering historic documents, there’s a volunteering role for everyone at the Ramblers, whatever your abilities and availability. Find out about five of our volunteers and the part they play in keeping Britain walking.
Bothersome bugs
Summertime means more minibeasts on our walks – and more exposed skin for them to bite or sting! Use our spotter’s guide to identify potentially problematic pests and find out how to keep yourself and others safe.
Walk & Talk: Michael Rosen
His bestseller We’re Going on a Bear Hunt has been inspiring family rambles for two generations. But when Covid left author and broadcaster Michael Rosen in a coma, he had to learn to walk again, one agonising step at a time.
