There will be no organised walk on Friday 5 April 2024, to allow everyone to make their way to Nethybridge whenever it suits best.
The weekend away is almost upon us and you will be keen to know the full arrangements. The walks were recced last week but please be aware they are all weather dependent, and snow is being forecast for that area this weekend, so if it is still lying higher up then it may affect some of the walks.
Check in time is after 3pm. We have arranged a meeting in the Function Room, on the ground floor, for 6PM on FRIDAY in order to go into details of the walks on offer and the arrangements for cars to & from the walks - the usual car sharing arrangements will apply for this.
The mileage is 350 miles return trip. As agreed at our AGM, the shared costs for longer journeys are at the discretion of the driver. Fuel costs to & from the walks on Saturday are the usual car sharing cost of 35p per mile.
MEAL TIMES - Friday dinner 7pm, Saturday dinner 6.30pm. Breakfasts from 8am and can be staggered according to the start time of your chosen walk
Saturday lunches - the Hotel can provide full packed lunches for Saturday but they MUST be ordered before 5pm on Friday. Alternatively, bring your own with you or purchase in Aviemore on Friday.
SATURDAY EVENING - live music has been arranged for us in the Function Suite and I am sure we will all find an extra spurt of energy to enjoy this - or sit listening while tapping our toes!
WALKS - HARD WALK (B+) Depending on the weather there will be one of the following walks available: Meall a Buichaille (Corbett) which sits above Loch Morlich near Coylumbridge or a lower hill near Aviemore as back-up The walk leaders for this are JOHN WALKER assisted by DES BROADLEY.
MIDDLE WALK (B) - Glenmore Centre to Lochan Uaine (Green Loch) and Ryvoan Bothy (8 miles) This walk on Saturday 6th April is lead by Graham & Sarah. It is a 8 mile walk with an elevation of 400mtrs, starting with a reasonably steep ascent through the forest and along the hillside above Glenmore Lodge. The walk levels out where we will pass through a stepped boulder section (poles and robust footwear are essential) in single file dropping down to the Green Loch. From there we will walk up the path to the Ryvoan Bothy where we will stop for lunch before retuning down through the forest on a circular route back to the visitor centre car park.
EASY WALK (C) - Circuit of Loch Morlich which is a flat path (4miles) lead by Robina
This is a gentle, flat walk of 4 miles which takes us round Loch Morlich at Glenmore. There are spectacular views of Cairngorm, which currently has a covering of snow. The path is excellent with few tree roots & no inclines. There are open views of the Loch and some walking through the magnificent Scots Pines which grow almost down to the water's edge in places. We finish on a stretch if sandy beach where there is a water sports centre which serves coffee.
Risk Assessment: There are a few stretches between trees or which have loose stones.
Poles are optional./ Boots or strong walking shoes are advisable
SUNDAY morning walk - On Sunday 7 April we propose to have a walk to suit all of the group on paths within the Abernethy Forest, which will finish in plenty of time to allow for the drive home.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Nethybridge. If you have any further questions please contact myself on 07443033158 or John Walker on 07732526737
Thank you.
