Walking in East Devon

Welcome to East Devon Ramblers.   We usually walk in and around East Devon and West Dorset, but occasionally further afield to Dartmoor and Exmoor, as well as other parts of Devon, Dorset, and Somerset.

East Devon is predominantly an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with sweeping rural and coastal views — both often available within the same circular walk.    A characteristic example being the ‘East Devon Way’ linear route between Exmouth and Lyme Regis.  The local section of the South West Coast Path includes a spectacular portion of the Jurassic Coast, Britain's first natural World Heritage Site.

Our published programme often provides a number of walks with the possibility of food and beverages afterwards.   Typically, Friday half-day walks may offer an optional lunch at the end, usually in a pub, and some all-day walks finish at a cafe for tea and cake.

Our friendly walking community

We are known for being a friendly, welcoming, and well run group, with over five hundred members and many confident leaders, generating a steady supply of walks and events.   This provides many choices of terrain and pace to suit your walking style, and a busy social calendar including quizzes, evening meals, and the ever-popular Christmas lunch.

A regular week looks like this:

  • Sunday - a choice of two full-day walks including a picnic lunch.   Typically, one will be a moderate or strenuous walk between 9 and 13 miles, and the other a leisurely walk between 7 and 9 miles.
  • Wednesday – a choice of two-full day walks including a picnic lunch, either moderate or strenuous, and between 8 and 12 miles.
  • Friday – a choice of two morning walks, usually one leisurely and the other moderate, between 4 and 6 miles.   Sometimes there is the option of a pub lunch afterwards.

Visitors

There is generally no pre-booking for group led walks, unless specifically mentioned by that walk leader.

Please contact them directly, through the phone number given in the walk details, if you have any unanswered queries.
