Welcome to Capital Walkers, the friendly London Ramblers group for people aged 40+. We walk every weekend and usually at least once during the week.
A walk that is inspired by King Harold’s march to the Battle of Hastings in 1066. Harold was crowned King of England on 6th January 1066. This set in motion a chain of events from the Battle of Stamford Bridge and ended in defeat at the Battle of Hastings.
We start at Staplehurst. We then take the bus to Sissinghurst where we finished the last section. The first part is to walk the roman road from Sandhurst to Sandhurst Cross before the descent into the upper reaches of the Rother Valley joining the Sussex Border Path to Bodiam Castle. As there is no train station here we continue to Robertsbridge to catch the train back to London

TRAVEL:
Take the 9.38am from London Bridge to Staplehurst arrives Staplehurst East 10.27 (buy a single to Stapleshurst)
Take the No 5 leaving at 10.53 arriving at 11.08 (buy a ticket on bus with contactless or Freedom Pass)
Return from Robertsbridge to London Bridge at 8 minutes past the hour (buy a single from Robertsbridge to London)
