The walk follows the River Tyne Trail from Newburn to Wylam, climbs to Heddon on the Wall (around 400 feet of ascent), returning to Newburn with views over the Tyne Valley.

The distance between Newburn and Wylam is about three miles and is mostly level. Past short walkers have chosen to stop by George Stephenson’s Birthplace before returning via the River Tyne Trail to Newburn (around 5 miles).
