Ben 'An is a great wee hill in the Trossachs, described as a miniature mountain, and one of the most popular small hills in Scotland. There are wonderful views from the summit including Ben Venue, Loch Katrine and Loch Achray. In clear weather the summit of Ben Lomond and Loch Venachar can be seen.
The ascent follows a good, but steep path at the edge of woodland following the burn, which is crossed by a footbridge and further on a small stream is crossed via stepping stones. Once out of woodland area, the path becomes more rocky and views of Ben 'An appear. Care should be taken on the path where tree felling has been carried out, and good boots and walking poles may be welcome. Following the main path we approach the rocky scramble which will take us to the summit. The plan is to take the steep path beside the fence line down to the shores of Loch Katrine, where there is the opportunity to have a warm drink or ice cream, depeding on the weather conditions.
