Overview

Blackness/Hopetoun Walk

Leader: Janette Andrews (Tel: 07906 031701)

Meet at Currie Library at 9am for 9:15 departure or meet at Blackness by the sea front at 9:45 for walk start at 10am.
Parking at sea front or as you come into village in front of Public Toilets.
Distance: Just over 6 miles easy walking on forest paths and estate grounds with very little elevation.
Maximum number of walkers: 26

Description:

We start the walk by going up the slope next to the castle and see some remains of a dovecote and a chapel.  From there we walk on the foreshore and take the forest path which follows the shoreline all the way to the zig zag path up to the old cemetery at Abercorn village.  There is a very small museum in what I think was the gatehouse to the cemetery.  Leaving there we pass through the village and after a short road walk we go into the Hopetoun House Estate hopefully seeing some of the large herd of deer that live there.  After the estate walk we return to the forest walk and return to Blackness.  There has been work removing trees etc so poles are recommended in case there is debris on the forest path.
