Starting at Clunton Coppice Wildlife Trust car park the walk traverses the Sowdley Woods a remnant of the Oak woodland which once covered most of South Shropshire and provided managed charcoal production for centuries. We descend into the town of Clun and visit the 13th century Norman castle, before ascending along the Shropshire Way to the Bury Ditches. Bury Ditches offers the most spectacular viewpoint across South Shropshire and into Wales. The route then descends into the quaint hamlet of Clunton before ascending to the start point.
The walk will wander through the South Shropshire landscape, using excellent footpaths and quiet country lanes. A few well maintained stiles. Woodland footpaths may be muddy in wet conditions. Ascent is 1800', viewpoints are spectacular across Shropshire, Wales and Herefordshire. A good walk for less experienced walkers as ascent is steady and footpaths are sound underfoot.
