An easy 8.5 mile walk in the countryside around Witham Friary. We start from the village car park and cross land belonging to Heal Somerset, the first of three rewilding projects we will see today. We then ascend Druly Hill through Cannwood Farm, the second project, where we can see beaver dams and ponds. The walk then proceeds through Trout Pond Wood with fine views into Witham Vale. We descend into the Vale on what was once the driveway to a long disappeared 18th century Palladian house, the property of William Beckford, one of the richest men in England at the time. We pass the site of the medieval Carthusian priory and cross the busy London to Exeter railway line before walking beside the priory's fish ponds and returning to Witham via Long Ham, the third rewilding project.
