This pleasant 6 mile C+ walk will begin from the beach car park in Fairlie...[On entering Fairlie turn left after the bus stop].
The walk has a total elevation of 466 feet and, there are a number of moderate ascents and upward climbs at the begining and in the middle of the walk. At the start of the walk we will follow a narrow and somewhat steep path through the woods. The walk then takes us onto the upper estate road and the North Glen path and past the viewing point. Some of the best views at Kelburn can be seen from the Countess walk which leads us downhill on a gentle decline from the Estate Road to the Castle and visitor Centre. We will have our lunch break here [toilet facilities available and tea/coffee can be bought at the cafe if required] .We will finish our walk with a leisurely stroll along the Beach.
This walk offers spectacular views over the Clyde Estuary and the vista looks out onto the Islands of Arran, Bute, Cumbrae, and Little Cumbrae. In the distance, weather permitting the Cowal Hill, the Kyles of Bute and the North end of the Kintyre Pennisula can also be seen.
Most of the walk is on good and established paths but some areas are muddy due to the recent heavy rain. Walking poles and gaiters advised and, waterproof clothing depending on the weather forecast We also need to cross the busy A78 at the begining and towards the end of the walk.
Meet at East Ayrshire Council carpark at 0850 to arrange car sharing for 0900 departure. Journey time is approx 45 minutes and I aim to start the walk from the Beach carpark in Fairlie at 1000.
