This is an enjoyable and energetic 11 mile walk which passes through a variety of terrains - fields, woodland, moors, hills and steps through parkland. We pass by Bottoms reservoir, climb above Arnfield reservoir and go over the wonderfully named ‘Devil’s Bridge’ !
We ascend gradually with two ascents - one before lunch and one after - 670 metres in total and descend about the same. Descents require care due to loose stones and uneven surfaces.
We begin our walk climbing up through Tintwistle to pass the grave of Vivienne Westwood and a house where nothing happened! We then use often narrow moorland paths, sometimes walking alongside a steep downhill incline. After this, the paths open out over fields and farmland with great views across the Longendale Valley. Upon reaching woodland, we find paths which may be muddy due to streams flowing downhill.
Our highest point will be the trig point on Wild Bank Hill at 399m.
We cross a number of stiles and there are small bridges over streams.
