Overview

This walk and social is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

Join us for a short evening walk and social event at Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival.

After meeting at Hitchin station, we’ll pass through the suburbs, including the local park Ransom’s Rec, and into the village of Ickleford. On our way we’ll walk alongside the River Hiz and follow a rural footpath between the old railway embankment and the former cricket-bat willow plantation. Next we head through farmland west of the village before turning south and passing some impressive houses. We then return to Hitchin along Bedford Road and walk through King George V Playing Fields to reach the Beer & Cider Festival at Hitchin Rugby Club, about four miles into our walk.

Drinks and food will be available at the Festival. When we’ve had our fill, it’s a walk of about a mile back to the station, retracing the start of our walk via Heathfield Road, Stormont Road and Ransom’s Rec.

About the Festival: Organised by North Herts CAMRA, Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival offers around 200 real ales, ciders, perries and meads, plus food from a variety of vendors. Drinks can be enjoyed in the marquee or on the field. Tickets are £5 plus a refundable £3.50 for a Festival glass. We recommend buying advance tickets from the Hitchin Beer & Cider Festival website. Thursday General Admission tickets are £18.50 including £10 of drinks tokens.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.

For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.
