Fantastic views. Please note that there are a lot of stiles, some quite tricky, and it is wet and muddy in some areas. The majority of the walk is moderate, but there is a fairly steep climb up towards Charles Head. Route: Thorneycroft Farm, Charles Head, Summer Close, Jenkin Chapel, Fox Hill, Saltersford Hall, Redmoor (short section of nettles and brambles), Thursbitch (a valley with a derelict farmstead beneath Shining Tor). The name Thursbitch was first recorded in 1384 and apparently means “Demon Valley”. We continue on to Dunge Farm, where hopefully the stunning Rhododendrons will be out, then Clough Farm, and return to start.
Bring food and drink for coffee and lunch stops. Fingers crossed for good weather as the views are fantastic. If you want a lift from the Handforth area, contact Melanie: 07854 093785.
