A walk of curious beauty. The initial stage follows the Hertfordshire Way crossing arable land with big skies. We pass the village of Abbots Langley and then along an idyllic old lane. This is juxtaposed with weaving twice under the M25 and also the M1. From here we head north passing Bone Hill and Park Wood as we make our way to Gorhambury Estate, with the crumbling ruins of Old Gorambury House. The final section of the walk reaches St Albans crossing Watling Street, the former Roman Road and a some remains of the Roman City of Verulamium including a theatre. An early incarnation of the City was destroyed by Boudica in AD 60/61 before being rebuilt. We follow the River Ver before heading up to impressive Cathedral.
Sections of the walk may be muddy if there has been heavy rain and long sections of the walk are paved or along private road.
No drop-out points.
