Overview

Joint with Hampstead Group.

14 mile walk at moderate pace, no drop-out points.

Route: Circular from Kintbury along part of the Berkshire Circular Route to the pretty village of Ham, then following the Mid Wilts Way up onto the Wessex Downs at Ham Hill. The walk then passes along the ridge of the downs, with beautiful views over the Berkshire countryside below, to Inkpen Hill, where it descends to return to Kintbury via Lower Green.

Lunch Stop: at Ham, one mile before the midpoint of the walk, or on the ridge of the downs, depending on weather and timing of the walk. Please bring a picnic lunch, there is no pub at Ham, if we stop there, but there will not be time for a meal in the restaurant.

Meet at Kintbury Station at 10:18.

Travel: Paddington 09:05 (Newbury service), calling at Reading at 09:33 and arriving at Newbury at 09:54, where you change to the 10:11 train (Bedwyn service), arriving at Kintbury at 10:18). Check trains the day before.

Ticket/Fare: Buy Off-Peak Day Return to Kintbury.

Finish: Kintbury Station - EFT: 5:30pm.
