Jointly led with Catherine Vost, historian with expert knowledge of Mary Queen of Scots. Walk in the footsteps of Mary Queen of Scots and find out more about her dramatic and tragic life. Starting at Mosspark train station we will walk beside the White Cart Water to Crookston Castle built by the Darnley family, the most famous was Henry Darnley, second husband of Mary Queen of Scots. There will be time to explore the castle which is remarkably well preserved. We rejoin the river and walk towards Queens Park via Pollok Park and Crossmyloaf. Our lunch stop, and the end of the walk, will be near the Queens’s Park Glasshouse overlooking the Battlefield Monument.
A leisurely 6 miles through parkland and paved city roads, some short muddy stretches likely.
Queen Street Station is a 15 minute walk, or alternatively there are regular buses into the city centre from Pollokshaws Road.
If you wish to come on the walk you must contact the walk leader by email or text but no more than 2 weeks in advance. Also please provide the leader with a mobile phone number in case arrangements change.
There will be the opportunity to visit Crookston Castle (no charge). The castle is well preserved with stone steps and iron ladders for the adventurous.
