Downham has been described as the most beautiful village in Lancashire, was the setting and location for the filming of the 1961 film Whistle down the Wind. Starting from the village car park we head south passing at the foot of Worsaw Hill before making a sharp ascent up the north west side of Pendle Hill along Burst Clough to the summit and trig point that gives superb 360 degree views over Lancashire and towards the Yorkshire Dales. Descending down the north side we pass Hookcliffe Plantation to Hollins Farm along field paths back into Downham village. Risk assessment: Some minor quiet roads to cross, still take care as drivers may not be expecting pedestrians. Descent path from Pendle Hill at some points narrow and uneven.
