Overview

Walk in the lovely Peak District along farm tracks, crossing the small bridge over the River Derwent, and through the estate village of Edensor (pronounced Ens-sor), established by the VI Duke of Devonshire.  The village is a replacement of a former village, but the mediaeval church & one original cottage remain.

Weather permitting, you should get lovely views over Chatsworth House, the fountains and valley - the estate was laid out by Capability Brown - and up to the Hunting Lodge.  Continue to the small villageof Beeley, another estate village, with a Norman church & its rather up-market pub, before turning back to Rowsley, which has a claim to fame in having a railway station built in the early 19thC but prematurely - the proposed railway ddn't come via Rowsley.
