Overview

A classic English walk with a Kiwi twist.

Join me to celebrate Matariki by walking the Seven Sisters of England. Known as the Pleiades, Storehouse, The Netted Stars or Subaru in other cultures, Matariki marks the beginning of Māori New Year in Aotearoa New Zealand as the Pleiades star cluster rises in the eastern skies. Traditionally Matariki signifies the success of the season ahead: clear bright stars being a good omen whilst hazy stars are said to indicate a harsh winter. Each individual star of the cluster has a name and represents a specific thing such as wind or food.

No New Year celebration would be complete without hospitality and there will be ample opportunity following the walk for restorative fellowship in a local establishment.

Please bring a packed lunch. Refreshments (drinks) are available on the walk.

There are toilets at both Seaford and Eastbourne Stations.

No booking is required.

The finishing time is an estimate only and will be dependent upon a number of factors, such as the weather, the speed at which the group walks and the number of breaks taken.
