Overview

Enjoy the glorious views and wide open spaces on the top of the South Downs, along with a late morning cafe stop at the Old Workshop Cafe, Sullington Farm, which welcomes walkers and serves the most delicious cakes and savouries. To earn these we start with a steep ascent up the Downs (on a slightly overgrown path, but it allows us to cross the A24 safely beforehand on a foot bridge). Thereafter we follow wide open tracks, south to Highden Barn and along the South Downs Way to Chantry Post. We shall pause to enjoy the views from the top, bring your own drinks if you wish. Then we drop down to Sullington, with a stop at the cafe. There is an interesting church and art gallery in the barn there too. Finally we have an easy level walk back to Washington.

Although further afield than most of our Sunday morning walks, it is an easy journey to Washington straight down the A24.
