This is a lovely coastal, clifftop and woodland walk, with two steep climbs which are rewarded with great views.
We walk the coast between St Leonards and Hastings before climbing up East Cliff into Hastings Country Park.
We take in Covehurst Wood with its Dripping Well, Fairlight Glen, North´s Seat (the highest point in Hastings Country Park, with views across to Rye and Dungeness) and Fairlight Hall. Several paths will be festooned with May blossom, and there are regular sea views.
There are various public loos and rest-benches (particularly on the slopes), plus Hastings Country Park Visitor Centre and Cafe on the second half of the walk.
Bring lunch and plenty to drink, plus something dry to sit on.
There´s the option of a bus back from Hastings for anyone who doesn´t fancy the final mile to the pub. (Soft/hot drinks available).
N.B. This walk can feel longer than 12.4 miles, due to the climbs.
Walking Boots with ankle support are required for this walk - there are several uneven paths due to tree roots and dried-out mud slides.
The first steep climb on this walk is up well maintained steps; the second is a long steep slope. (Its descent consists of shallow to medium wooden steps.)
We avoid all the really steep, knee-deep steps in Hastings Country Park.
