A walk from the historic market town of Alston to the old lead mining village of Garrigill. The route follows paths high above the South Tyne via Annat Walls and Bleagate before descending to follow the river to Garrigill. Given good weather the views should be excellent.
The walk makes use of both the Pennine Way and the South Tyne Trail, but there are some narrow riverside paths, numerous challenging stone stiles and approx. 1500ft. cumulative ascent.
(Since this walk was planned, Dryburn Bridge over the South Tyne has closed for repair. We will follow the signposted alternative route until we can pick up our original one once again.)
Advance booking is required for this walk. To reserve your place, please e-mail the walk leader, Heather, through the contact box above - and remember to include your mobile number in the mail.
Booking opens on Monday, 25th March.
This walk is limited to 15 walkers.
