Overview

This is a mostly woodland walk above the Calder Valley heading east to Brighouse and taking in Elland Park Wood, Binns Wood, Cromwell Wood and Freemans Wood before crossing the canal and river at Brighouse. Return will roughly trace the railway back to Elland via Reins Wood and Sangstry Wood before descending to the Calder near Cromwell Bottom local nature reserve.

Meet at the top of Gasworks Lane, just off Elland Bridge, opposite a large converted mill called Project Colt. Parking is possible along and just off Gasworks Lane but very limited. Additional on-road parking may be found nearer to Elland town centre or next to Project Colt buildings.
