Overview

A walk through and around Kingley Vale National Nature Reserve, which is Europe’s largest yew forest.

We will walk up a valley to the forest and stop for a coffee at the Devil’s Humps. These are four Bronze Age burial mounds with excellent views over the West Sussex countryside.

The walk will continue north-west to the typical small Downland village of Stoughton where we will see the 11th Century church of St Mary’s before heading east on the Monarch’s Way to Bow Hill. We will then descend through the yew forest and return to the car park Some of the ancient yews are thought to be 2,000 years old.

Pre-booking with the walk leader is essential
