This is a delightfully scenic walk. It is probably hillier than the average short walk but well worth the effort. Route: Reservoir Road, Toddbrook Reservoir, Taxal Church, Horwich End, Over Leigh, Horwich Farm, Ollerenshaw Hall, long gentle hill up Eccles Road to Eccles Pike (tarmac with spectacular views to look at while you climb!), short steep climb to Eccles Pike, steep descent from Eccles Pike to Eccles Fold. Beautiful footpath west (with stunning views of Chinley Churn), Buxworth, Silkhill Farm, return to car park.
It is generally good underfoot as there is quite a lot of walking on quiet country roads. Most of the off road tracks are good, but there is quite a lot of mud in some places so bring poles if you need them.
Toilets in Whaley Bridge and Taxal Church.
Bring drinks and snack for coffee stop, which will probably be slightly late at Over Leigh. Bring poles if you use them. Lift available from Handforth area. Contact Melanie 07854 093785.
