We hop over the county border into East Sussex, for this 11.5 mile walk starting from Winchelsea, which is a fine yomp, that gives us magnificent views of the Brede & Tillingham Valleys, as well as visiting an old church and a pub.
On starting out, we join the 1066 Country Walk, and in the very early stages, we reach the Trig Point and the Millennium Beacon at Hill Farm. Both these landmarks are located on National Trust owned land, and this is also where St Leonard's windmill once stood, but this was blown down in the great storm of 1987.
Our route takes us below Cadborough Cliff, until we reach the outskirts of Rye, at which point we join the High Weald Landscape Trail. Walking alongside the River Tillingham, we cross mostly pastureland, which can lie wet in places, but hopefully during June, we should be okay!. We head steadily uphill, as we make our way to the 11th century Peasmarsh Church, which is approximately 6 miles into the walk, so is the perfect spot for our lunch break.
Continuing on, the next highlight is at Pelsham Manor, look out for the former cricket pavilion, which is allegedly a replica of the pavilion at Lord's. Then, on reaching Cock Marling, the group will stop for drinks at the Plough inn, before continuing back downhill to eventually return to Winchelsea.
