Overview

Where we will walk

Mix of open, well made footpaths, forest walks, lanes and riverside paths.

Out west through the town, towards Fearby, south across the river Burn to Ilton (sharp ascent) and then across the grouse moor reaching the high point of 260m. Turning east, we'll start the descent, through Nutwith plantation, down to river Ure, and then back along river.

Lunch either on Ilton village green or a little further on just before reaching the moor.  Either way, most of the ascent will be behind us by then.

Start place: Riverside Car Park. Approaching on the B6108, cross the bridge into Masham. The car park is then about 200m on the left. This is an ‘Honesty Box’ car park. The box is on the route, on the right of the path near the tennis courts. There are toilets in the town next to the Bruce Arms pub. We will be passing this way at the start of the route, but if you have time beforehand, so much the better! Take the footpath which runs between the tennis courts and the clubhouse. This leads you to a flight of steps, about 200m from the car park. The toilets are at the top of the steps on your right
