About us
Welcome to the Dorset 4050 Walkers group. Despite our group name, we really don’t mind what age you are! If you like walking with a welcoming, relaxed, easy going group of people who occasionally socialise, why not give us a try - we encourage people to join us on a walk to see if the group is for them before making any commitment to us or the Ramblers.
Our walks
Our aim is to provide a wide range of walks, at various grades and ranging between 8 and 15 miles in length. Typically, we'll walk at a moderate, sometimes brisk pace. We walk just about every weekend, usually on a Sunday and usually (but not always!) somewhere in Dorset. We also arrange a number of walking weekends throughout the year away from Dorset.
Planning ahead?
Walking in Wales: 9th-12th July 2026
South Snowdonia in north-west Wales is the location for Dorset 4050's away trip next July. There will be four walks on offer across four days and full details of each walk will be published on this webpage in October, but here's key information for those interested and keen to find accommodation.
When:
Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th July 2026
Where:
We will be based in Dolgellau, Gwynedd. There is quite a lot of accommodation in Dolgellau and the surrounding villages from hotels, Airbnbs, bunkhouses and campsites.
The walks:
Walk 1: Aran Fawddwy circular, 12 km (7.5 miles); 820 m ascent (2700 feet)
Walk 2: Cadair Idris circular, 19.2 km (12 miles); 1075 m ascent (3525 feet)
Walk 3: Rhinog Fach and part of the Rhinogs, from Cwm Nantcol circular, 20.5 km (12.75 miles); 1121 m ascent (3680 feet)
Walk 4: Llanelltyd via New Precipice Walk to Rhaeadr Du and Afon Mawddach circular, 17.6 km (11 miles); 650 m ascent (2150 feet)
Priority will be given to Dorset 4050 members. We may need to limit numbers on the harder walks, depending on the level of interest. You don't need to commit to doing all four walks but of course, being in Snowdonia means that a good level of fitness will be needed for the ascents - certainly to tackle all four consecutively. We expect to offer some training walks in north Dorset and the Purbecks the month before to help get everyone Wales-ready!
