What we do

Leading a walk with Meon Ramblers

Most of our walks are led by members of Meon Ramblers with members of other Ramblers groups leading occasional walks. Most of our walks are within Hampshire and the western part of West Sussex. We are always on the look-out for members of the Ramblers who are interested in a leading a walk with us. If you are interested, please get in touch with the Group.

Walking with the Meon Ramblers

We offer a range of walks using routes in Hampshire and West Sussex. Almost every Sunday through the year we have 3 walks: two all-day walks, one of about 14-16 miles the other of 9 - 11 miles. On the all-day walks there is a morning break for a drink and snack with a longer break at lunchtime for sandwiches or whatever you have brought with you. In the afternoon there is usually a shorter drink stop.

In addition to the longer walks we have a Sunday afternoon walk of between 5 and 6 miles at a slightly slower pace than the all-day walks. There will be a short snack/drink stop on these walks. All our walks may involve some stiles and rough paths and tracks. If the route is going to be very hilly this is usually mentioned in the walk details.

What to wear and what to bring on a walk

We don’t let the weather stop us from heading out into the countryside! Most days you will need a waterproof jacket in case of rain, and waterproof walking boots with a decent grippy sole help a lot. When it’s warmer you may prefer to wear lighter footwear or some sort of trainers. We would always recommend bringing an extra layer in case you get cold, or for when we take a break.

It’s also worthwhile bringing something to drink and eat as on most of our walks, there isn’t anywhere to buy refreshments.

Want to find out more?

Please get in touch with the Group using the details on this page. The contact telephone number of the leader is given by each walk: they will be very pleased to talk with you about the walk (where it starts, how to get to the start, the type of countryside you will be walking through).

We look forward to welcoming you on one of our walks.
