What we do

Footpath problems 

All problems that cause serious difficulty in accessing a path, e.g. disruption by ploughing and cropping, missing footbridges, obstructions, missing signs, overgrown paths, closures or broken stiles, should be reported to Shropshire Council. 

If possible include: 

  • the six figure grid reference of the location 
  • the route number *  
  • a location description 
  • the nearest village or parish 
  • a brief description of the problem or issue 
  • the date when encountered 
  • and if possible, attach a couple of photos

The Shropshire Way 

Shropshire Way Main Route Success – Audrey Menhinick 

While walking a section of the Shropshire Way from Stiperstones to Bishop’s Castle with my family, my grandson proved that the Main Route can be followed using a map downloaded from the website and by looking out for the prominent orange waymarks. 

The website went live early in October 2018 www.shropshireway.org. There is still work to do on the downloads for each section, accommodation and public transport. We are also looking for ‘champions’ for each section to report problems, clear overgrowth and maintain the waymarking. Shropshire Way main route (SWMR) progress (June 2018)

Our display is touring the county and our flyers and website are spreading the word about our Main Route Project. As a result we are delighted that Cicerone Press has appointed John Gillham to write a guide book to the Main Route. John has recently written Hill Walking in Shropshire. 

Twenty Walks in and Around Shrewsbury & Walking the Shropshire Way 

Published by Shrewsbury Ramblers, the 20 walks is a full colour book with easy to follow directions and good maps. The book includes features of architectural, historical or geological interest. 

At the bargain price of £4.99 it is ideal for families and for visitors to the Shrewsbury area. General Point to all walks: 

All the walks are frequently checked and maintained/improved by Shrewsbury Ramblers Footpath Maintenance Team for the benefit of all walkers, some features (stiles replaced by kissing gates etc.) may change over time but does not detract from following the route. 

There is a closure of a path used in Walk 13 (Bayston Hill) from the 20 Walks in and around Shrewsbury book due to house building. An alternative path has been opened which will allow walker access from Oteley Road to Bayston Hill Quarry.
