Getting there

By train: From Edinburgh, every half an hour or so. The first train is at 07:08 and the last leaves at 23:26.

By bus: Buses stop on Station Road, outside the train station.

By car: There is a car park right by the train station, where there are 96 spaces available 24 hrs a day, 7 times a week. The journey from Edinburgh, takes about 43 mins to drive (24.5 miles) - via the A1. Or 51 mins (28.1 miles) via the A198.

Walk to end of platform (if travelling by train, otherwise simply start at car park). Walk through car park and turn left into station road. Cross at first lights, turn right into station hill and cross again. Continue down Station hill. Take a left onto Point Gary road then take sharp left onto John Muir Way.Turn left at the statue of Ben Sayers. When at Beach Road, cross the road and go down Church Road. Turn a sharp left onto High Street (past Abbey Church of Scotland). Turn left on Quality Street (leaving the John Muir Way). Cross the road and continue onto Victoria Street (towards the Sea Bird centre). Take care when crossing (due to lack of lights and proper crossing)

Take a break at the Sea Bird centre and get to know what North Berwick is known for. Leaving the centre, turn left onto Melbourne Road (by the sea). Keep left and continue onto Marine parade. Just before reaching Tantallon Terrace (at the end of the car park, at the end of the hill) cross the road. Follow the path past Seaworthy cottage and just before a gate, turn right. Keep right then keep left. Take a right. Take a right into park/field. Cross the road (across from Aldi's) and go right. Take the first possible left into Glenburn Road. Just before house number 33, take a left and follow the path. Go through the gate and follow the narrow path around the field.

Just before the fence, turn right. Go through gate and turn left just before the next gate. Go up the hill, staying next to the fence (at the edge of the woodland area). Go through the gate and take a left, following the path. Take care climbing uphill as the path may be muddy and slippery. Take a right. and right again following the path up to the top of the hill. Once at the top, take a look at the whale jawbone, beautiful views and the history. Path is muddy and wet. Be aware of horses and take care when around them.

For going back down, go the same route as on the way up. When you reach a T junction by the sign saying "path to summit". turn right and keep following this path to a gate. Go through the gate and walk through the car park. At the end of the car park, follow path on right, parallel to the road leading out of car park. Take first possible right (where the John Muir Way path goes). Turn left just before the playground and follow the path that leads over Lochbridge Road and Gilbert Avenue. Continue down Lady Jane Road. Cross over St Baldreds Road and go towards park. Take care when crossing the road.

When you reach the park, take a path to the left. Keep on the left hand side path and go through gate. Cross Law road and turn right. Take first possible left onto St Margret's Road. Keep right. Turn left onto Marmion Road. Keep right. Turn right onto Station Road and cross at a suitable place. Be aware of high level of traffic and take care when crossing. Take a left into Station Court. Take a right into the Station car park, make your way to the platform (if travelling by train), or make your way to bus stop (if travelling by bus).
