Overview

We walk up through the northern edge of the Country Park before taking a field path and track down to the road and then into Fold Lane.  We enter the Clough and follow the waters up, emerging by the Talbot. We then head for the Troughstones before re-entering the Country Park at a different point. We descend towards the lake, round the bottom end and then out of the park, across the A527 and paths to Marsh Green. Then south along the Biddulph Valley Way before leaving to walk over Gillow Heath followed by paths leading up to Nick I’ the’ Hill. We follow the Gritstone trail along Congleton edge before coming down past Higher Whitemoor farm,  before re-crossing the A527 at Bailey's Bank and thence back to the car park.

As the walk re-enters the country park it is possible to curtail the walk after 4 miles should any walkers wish to do so. Walkers therefore have the option of doing a 4 mile or an 8 mile walk as part of the  Staffordshire Moorlands Walking Festival 2024
