We have a short steep climb* out of Hurstbourne Tarrant at the beginning of this, the final section of our walk, but then its downhill all the way, again passing through pleasant farmland, woodland and pretty villages. We cross two ancient tracks: (1) Hungerford Lane Roman Road, linking Cirencester to Winchester and beyond; and (2) the Harrow or Tin Way which can be traced from Kent to Cornwall, dating back to the Bronze Age. We enter Andover from the west, following the Anton Lakes Nature Reserve and the River Anton itself. Our walk finishes at Andover's War Memorial on the green next to St Mary's Church.
*It will be possible to do this walk without the initial steep climb, courtesy of our coach driver, who will drop you off further along the route at the top of the hill to meet up with the climbers! This route will be just over a mile shorter and downhill all the way.
Please bring food and drink for the day.
Our coach will pick us up from The Shire Horse in Littlewick Green and drop us off at Hurstbourne Tarrant. We will stop at a motorway service station on the way for a loo break and refreshments.
The coach will pick us up at the end of our walk and return us to The Shire Horse via the same service station.
