This is a chance to explore some of the back streets of Codicote, a village with a wealth of history dating back to Saxon times. In the medieval period it was prominent in the area, with a large church, prosperous cloth-making and pottery industries, a market and an annual fair. We will leave the village from the top of the High Street, descending quickly to Codicote Bottom and its mill. Returning through winding streets in the lower part of the village we spend the rest of the walk on the attractive uplands to the north, where there are extensive views and several small farms. An inn was operating in Codicote from as early as 1279. We will end our walk at the The Goat, which although not the earliest still has lots of old world charm.
