Overview

A moderate to brisk 13.7mile walk with some ascent joint with Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster Group and led by Thomas G (Mobile No: 07775 676092 - walk day only). About 5.75 hours walking. Map: E171, L175.

A longish walk with hidden valleys, mixed woodland and farmland, largely gentle slopes (but one substantial steep hill after lunch). Up one side and down the other of the long valley leading up to Stonor, with plenty of charming views and fine beech woods en route.

Route: riverside to A4130, Oxfordshire Way up and across The Mount to Pond Cottage, down into Middle Assendon, road then footpath southeasterly back up to the downs along Paradise Wood and to Coxlease Farm, descent through Almshill Wood into Stonor, follow B480 for a while to turnoff along byway up hill above Pishill, down through Pishill (picnic in churchyard) and follow Oxfordshire Way through various woods down to Bix Bottom, passing the ruined St. James's Church, back up into Bushy Copse and to Bix village, lane from Bix Manor Farm to Lambridge Wood, footpath through wood and across golf course to fringes of Henley, through town centre to station.

Lunch: Bring picnic - the nice pub is now closed! Plenty of refreshment opportunities in Henley after the walk.
