Our coach trip to the historic city of Winchester. Winchester became the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Wessex when King Alfred the Great came to the throne in 871 at the age of 21. His statue has dominated the broadway since 1901. You can visit Winchester Cathedral, Winchester City Mill (the oldest working mill in the UK), or journey into Arthurian legend and see the legendary round table at the Great Hall, visit the ruins of Wolvesey Castle plus many other attractions.
There are two walks to choose from. The six-mile walk will start from Owslebury, a small village to the South East of Winchester and will cross Hazeley Down and Twyford Down along the Pilgrim’s Way and finish at St Catherine’s Hill before descending into Winchester and following the river for the last few hundred yards. The three-mile walk will start from the village of Shawford to the South of Winchester and will follow the Itchen valley into Winchester.
The coach will depart from Cockfosters promptly at 8:00 am and will leave Winchester at 5:00 pm that evening.
