A gentle urban exploration of Norwich, taking in the city’s cultural, historical and commercial highlights at an unhurried pace. Starting from Norwich Station, we follow the riverside towards the Cathedral Quarter before weaving through some of the city’s most atmospheric medieval streets.
Please note: The route is around 3.5–4 miles on easy terrain, with plenty of time to enjoy the places we visit.
Highlights
- Norwich Cathedral – optional guided tour at 10.30 (£7 payable by 2nd May, details to follow).
- Historic Norwich – including Elm Hill, Pottergate and surrounding lanes.
- Plantation Garden – a remarkable Victorian garden (£2 entry, payable on the day).
- Norwich Market – plus time to browse nearby independent shops.
- The South Asia Collection – a unique museum, gallery and store in the former skating rink.
- Food and drink – finishing at a suitable local venue before returning to the station.
Registration
To ensure the group can move comfortably through busy city streets, numbers will be limited. Initially restricted to Hike Essex members with others added to a wating list.
Please contact the walk leader to register your interest; places will be allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis.
Food and drink
There will be opportunities to buy refreshments at Norwich Market, cafés and shops, or you may bring your own lunch. We will finish at a suitable local venue for food and drink before heading back to the station.

Toilets are available at Norwich Station, the Cathedral, and around the market area.
