Askham is a village in Westmorland and Furness, Cumbria. Previous walks via Eamont Bridge and Pooley Bridge have seen us traverse Askham Fell, Heughscar Hill with wonderful views of Ullswater, and Knipescar. In the words of Alfred Wainwright, ‘ …long before the Romans came the ancient Britons had already found the place much to their liking. So will modern Britons on the verge of becoming ancient.’ We also pass the ruins of Lowther Castle: well worth seeing.
