Great Ayton is at the foot of the Cleveland Hills beneath Easby Moor and the iconic, distinctively-shaped, Roseberry Topping. The River Leven, a tributary of the River Tees, flows through the village and links its two centres, High Green and Low Green. It is a fantastic walking hub in the North York Moors, offering routes for all levels, from gentle village strolls by the River Leven to challenging hikes up the iconic Roseberry Topping and to Captain Cook's Monument, featuring woodland, farmland, and stunning panoramic views, often combining the Cleveland Way and local paths: and for us finishing in the small village of Chop Gate.
