Overview

Hi everyone, please see below additional notes about Saturday’s walk from Maureen Wills,

Walk Leader.  Maureen’s contact details on the day are 07863 130876

How to get there

The walk starts at Demesne car park in Wolsingham at 10.30.Car Parking is free.

 Post code: DL13 3ES

What Three words: ///bleaker.dated.belonging

Grid Ref: N2076376  There are toilets within a short walking distance of the start car park.

Details of the walk

The walk is moderate walk of 5.89 miles, with 14 stiles to manoeuvre; around half of the stiles have adjoining gates to walk through. Sticks and gaiters are recommended as there has been quite a bit of rain this week so probably quite a bit of mud on the route.

The walk makes its way from Demesne car park towards Wolsingham town hall then we follow footpaths leading outside of the village and down towards the banks of the river Wear.

After following the river for some time the walk crosses a railway line and we make our way through country lanes to Bradley Burn Farm /cafe/caravan site. The first part of the walk is mostly flat.

The walk then moves us through the side of the caravan park and it‘s here we begin a moderate hill/bank incline to progress upwards into the hillside around Wolsingham.  The incline is in two sections and takes around 15 minutes to progress.

The walk continues down a quiet country road and we then we make our way back up a short bank.  At this point we will stop for lunch whilst we enjoy the vista.

After lunch we will cross a number of fields as we descend down into Wolsingham town and back to the car park. There are both cafes and pubs within five minutes of the walk/finish.

Thanks, Maureen
