PARKING- When entering Northumberlandia C.P. please park at the furthest point to your left, but NOT in the coach parking area. The site is run by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust so please consider making a donation of £2 at the entrance to the site.
TRAVELLING BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT-
Bus from Newcastle, Haymarket / Regent Centre Interchange Gosforth on the X9,X21 or X22 to Fisher Lane Arcot Manor bus stop. When alighting walk forwards on the grass verge & bare left onto Blagdon Lane & a few yards forward cross into the Snowy Owl C.P & then left through a stile alongside line of trees to entrance of the site.
WALK- We will go onto the Landform site Northumberlandia designed by Charles Jencks, you can explore “her” yourselves & enjoy the views to the coast & the Cheviot Hills on our return if you wish.
The walk will commence at Shotton Pools on the Private Blagdon Estate Nature Reserve which was a former open cast mining site.
Most of the walk is on good but stoney tracks to North Shotton Farm & on a grass path above the River Blyth with a couple of very short inclines & descents, it may be a little muddy in sections. Wildlife & spring flowers in abundance & Exmoor Ponies grazing on the site.
EQUIPMENT- Sticks may well be useful.
