From the car park, with views across to the leper fields, we walk down to the Torridge and along to Rolle Bridge. We then follow the Tarka Trail to Watergate Bridge, where we go up and over the hills to Monkleigh. It's downhill from here back to the Tarka Trail, with several crossings of the river. We follow a short section of the old Rolle canal and then climb steadily up on to Torrington Common. Footpaths and quiet lanes.
