Paths can be slippery, boots and sticks necessary. Lunch will be on the cliff top at Horden (if weather permits) with pleasant views over the sea and the Dene’s mouth. The Dene is a National Nature Reserve, stronghold of rare butterflies and of many species of plant and animal life. There are toilets.
Leave the A19 southbound at exit for Old Shotton / Shotton Hall. Pass Vauxhall Garage on your right, then turn right onto Durham Way following signs for Castle Eden Dene. At Oakerside Lodge turn right into CP.
