Saturday, 23 July 2022 (Group: Stag Walkers)
Start time 10:00
Moderate
13 miles / 20.9 km
(Estimated finish time: 15:00)
This walk is limited to 20 people, including the leader.
This is an opportunity to see Cadwell Lavender when the lavender plants are in full bloom.
This walk will start off at Letchworth's famous Spirella Building, which was origianlly a corset factory.
It passes through Norton Common, and Pix Brook Meadow, before following Letchworth Greenway past Standalone Farm. It will then pass through Fairfield Park to Arlesey via the Green Wheel. Fairfield Park is a housing estate built on the site of an old hospital, and now has a number of streets named after authors and literary characters.
From Arlesey, the walk will follow the Hicca Way to Ickleford, and then pass by Cadwell Lavender Farm while following the Ickleford to Letchworth Slow Way. It will pass by the Wilbury Public House, made famous in Simon Pegg and Edgar Wrights' film "The World's End", and then pick up the Letchworth Greenway again, passing an area noted for its prefab buildings that were constructed hastily during World War II. It will then return to Letchworth Station via the UK's first roundabout and Broadway Gardens.
There will be an optional pub trip afterwards.
