Leaving Eckford along The Loaning we reach the highest point of the walk to enjoy the view North from Wooden Hill. There are also excellent view South as we follow the track to join St. Cuthbert’s Way. This begins the gentle decent through woodland, across farmland and on the Roman road, Dere Street.
After crossing the A698 we follow the Borders Abbey Way along the River Teviot and old Railway Line to the Level Crossing cottage.
Now back on the Crailing, Eckford and Nisbet Path we cross the River Kale then follow the woodland path back to Eckford.
A circular walk linking the villages of Crailing, Eckford and Nisbet.
This is a well established path which is maintained but there are spots of woodland storm damage and there may be slippy, muddy sections if wet. Poles may help to pass these points safely. Crossing farm land means there are some stiles along the path and fields of livestock to pass. There are also some short sections of road walking.
