Tony & Donna Smith will leadan 10.5 (aprox) mile walk, starting from, Ashwell Church, in Rutland
This walk was programmed to start in Whissendine but having reccied it the pub stop would be too early. So the start point has been moved to Ashwell, Other than that it is the same walk.We set off from Ashwell and soon cross a railway level crossing where a sign indicates that pedestrians should phone the signalman to ensure a train isn't due, haven't seen that before. We soon pick up the Rutland Round and follow that to Whissendine. After the village we have a choice whether to follow the Rutland Round on a track or take the Rutland Round alternative.Using field paths and tracks through woods we eventually reach the Black Bull in Market Overton. The pub doesn't open on Mondays (our Recce day) so an incomplete recce. We were told that a stocktaking was underway as new management were taking over that day so at least they should be keen to impress! The signs outside advertised Theakstons and Black Sheep so hopefully there should be a good choice. The majority of the walk will be completed prior to our stop (8 to 8.5 miles) which leaves 2.5 to 3 miles to complete the walk.
