The walk starts from Painswick known as the 'Queen of the Cotswolds' because of its picturesque cottages and pretty churchyard with yew trees. The route passes Painswick House and the splendid Rococo Gardens and then over the golf course to Painswick Beacon. From this Iron Age Fort there should be fabulous views over the Severn Vale, the Forest of Dean and the Welsh Mountains. The route continues heading to the village of Edge. Bring refreshments for a coffee and lunch stop.

It’s a return visit to Elmley Castle for a walk on some well known paths towards the infamous Smokey Lane, then using bridleways we follow the Salt Way and a lane through Upper Roughs to Kersoe. The route is approximately 5.5 miles.
