An opportunity to walk in the relatively unknown Yorkshire Wolds partly on the Chalklands Way. One advantage of chalklands is that they're well drained, so less muddy on the whole. Some think that the Wolds aren't very challenging: this walk has around 300m total ascent. You'll know you've done it by the end!
Bugthorpe and Kirby Underdale are both attractive villages and worth the visit. "Kirby Underdale hides secretively in a deep hollow, with a church, unusually in the wold country, set lower down the hillside than the village it serves..... Herringbone masonry gives a fair clue to its late eleventh century origins.." according to Geoffrey Wright.
Viewpoints are: Acklam Brow (150m), Hanging Grimston - another lovely place name (230m) and Mount Pleasant - lunch stop (140m). There's a fabulous view at lunch time - with Emley moor antenna which is a distance of 47.5 miles sometimes visible. A quiet walk-in which you may encounter wildlife as often as other humans.
