Witton le Wear walk - 02 February

Please note that this walk has been CANCELLED due to the weather conditions. 

However, there is a possible alternative short walk.  The details are as follows:

10.30am starting from Chester-Le-Street Cricket Ground. Ropery Lane. Chester-Le-Street. DH3 3PF  (NB this is not Durham (Emirates) cricket ground) the walk will then go past St. Mary's and Cuthbert's church where St. Cuthbert's body rested for 112 years before being moved to Durham. The church contains the only copy of the Lindisfarne Gospels and the church will be opened especially for our members to view them. The route will then follow the first section of the annual 'Cuddy's Corse' walk into the Riverside Park passing the resident swans then around the Lumley Castle area. 6 miles at a steady pace with refreshments at 13.30pm. 

Driving directions - Leave the A1m onto the A167 to Chester le Street and follow the dual carriageway to the second roundabout. Take the third exit into Ropery Lane. Continue along Ropery Lane almost to the end of the road. The entrance to the cricket club carpark is approximately 50 yds from the end of the road on the right through large blue gates.  Care should be taken entering these gates. Please arrive in good time, as all walks start promptly at 10am.

If there is doubt about the weather, please contact the walks leader before setting off. Unfortunately, there are no dogs permitted on the group's walks (except assistance dogs) and if you take a mobile phone, please use it with consideration for others.

Some members meet informally at a local teashop at the end of walks, please feel free to join us.
